I've just been talking to a writer about how nice it can be to have something special and personal on the inside of your ring - either an engraved message or sometimes we set a tiny gemstone on the inside, so only you and your partner know it is there.
My husband and I want down the prosaic route of having our wedding date and each other's names on the inside of our wedding bands, which gives me a lovely warm feeling. It also has the upside of a)neither of us has an excuse to forget our wedding anniversary and b)if one of us woke up from a coma with amnesia then it'd be a good starting point for finding each other again. (I feel it's important you think of these things when planning to spend the rest of your life with someone.)
Lots of people get a bit more creative though - Latin is seen as the language of ancient permanence in this country, so why not consider Amour vincit omnia - love conquers all - or Diligo eternus - Love eternal - as a statement of intent.
Alice has had some lovely customers who had their ring engraved in Elvish, although that works better on the outside as there isn't room inside most rings for those flowing characters.
Finally, we have a craftsman who does wonderful seal engraving, which could be great on a really big chunky ring. The design possibilities are endless!
Find out more about engraving the inside or outside of your ring, and think about what would make your piece more personal to you.
