Hi
As I am going to a fireworks party tonight I was reminded of one of the first bespoke jewellery commissions that Harriet Kelsall undertook when she begin her company around 10 years ago.
This fireworks inspired brooch has always stuck in my memory because it is such a bold piece of jewellery and has such a clear inspiration behind the design. I believe the lucky person that wears this brooch met her husband during a fireworks display!
The brooch is handmade from a large flat piece of Sterling silver. Hand engraved lines create a sense of movement as the firework rises into the sky and the coloured gemstones are of course the colours that you get from different fireworks.
The gemstones that are set into the brooch are onyx, peridot, garnet, moonstone and diamond. The onyx is the large stone top right, the three smaller splashes of colour bottom left are peridot (green), garnet (red) and moonstone (silvery grey). A little bit of extra sparkle, top left, is created by the tiny star set diamonds.
Over the years, Harriet and the other designers at Harriet Kelsall Jewellery Design, have designed some wonderful and striking brooches based on other themes such as music or animals, so if you are celebrating a special event in you or your partner's life, why not commission them to design something unique and personal for you.
