Diamond Price Comparisons

Hello

I have just been having another look at the national averages for engagement ring prices across the UK. It is interesting to note how our diamond prices compare with the rest of the UK industry at the moment.

  • For 0.25cts H SI diamonds, our diamonds are priced at the same place as the "national average" price.
  • For 0.50cts H SI diamonds, our diamonds are about £260 cheaper than the "national average".
  • For 0.75cts H SI diamonds, our diamonds are about £300 cheaper than the "national average".
  • For 1cts H SI diamonds, our diamonds are about £640 cheaper than the "national average".

The comparisons above include VAT and so represent "savings" on what the customer actually spends compared to the national average.

This is important - I know that we aren''t "all about price", but it is good for us to know that our diamonds are really good value. Sometimes if people are coming in for the first time they perceive that we might be expensive because we present ourselves very well - and actually this proves them completely wrong - our diamonds are actually really good value and much cheaper than the national average in many cases. In fact - the bigger the diamond, the more you "save" compared to the national average!

The above applies to just the diamond compared with other diamonds sold in engagement rings across the country but the ring or "mount" price has been taken off so this just compares the retail diamond prices between each other.

As you all know - the price of a diamond ring can essentially be "split" into two parts in your mind - the cost of the diamond itself and then the cost of the ring (or "mount") that holds the diamond.

I have no nationally recorded data to compare mount prices at the moment, but of course do keep a good eye on mount prices elsewhere. My hunch is that our mounts are a little bit more costly than the "average" mount - not a great deal more costly, only a little bit more costly. This is quite right and appropriate - this is because our mounts are much better quality and are not just a one-part cast which skimps on the metal everywhere possible. Our mounts are very well hand made 100% here in the UK, many are even completely hand forged from scratch depending on the design and what is "right" for the ring. So it would be right and appropriate if our mounts work out a little more costly than they do on the "high street" because this is not "like for like" to compare them to the national average. Our mounts represent the "Rolls-Royce" type of a mount which you can''t compare to a Fiat Panda.

However that the little bit "extra" that our customers may sometimes pay on the mount part of their engagement ring from us is certainly worth it and our mounts represent excellent value for money. Our customers pay this small amount extra to get a really good quality designed and crafted mounted engagement ring from us rather than something mass produced (often overseas). And actually when they buy a diamond engagement ring of about half a carat or over, this "extra" is often made up for by the "saving" to the national average diamond price anyway. In addition to this, almost all of our rings are one-offs and so we also offer a truly unique design.

Best wishes
