Platinum three stone princess cut green sapphire and diamond ring

This stunning engagement ring has recently been designed by Rebecca Howarth and it is a real eye catcher, holding the 0.78ct stunning green princess cut sapphire, it sits slightly higher than the shoulder stones so that the sapphire looks more proud. The two princess cut H SI diamonds total 0.74cts and together that adds that extra sparkle to the design. All three stones are set in side only settings which acts as a protection for the stones but, they also allow in more light into each stone so that it bounces through the facets and creates more of a sparkle to offset the sapphire.

The band measures 3mm wide and has a flat profile which works perfectly with the clean, angled shapes of the ring. As the band is flat at the side with no shaping involved, there is no need for a fitted wedding band as it has been designed to be able to sit against another flat band for instance a ring similar to below which work well with this design.

With the settings tapering solidly together they create a sharp and crisp finish to the design. This has been created with the use of a computer aided program(CAD) which is a method to initially construct the ring which Rebecca has written about in her previous blog. In the blog, it shows the initial CAD design from the computer, it then shows the resin before it has been cast into platinum and above it the finished product! It is such an amazing process to watch and be a part of.

The colour of this particular sapphire is another plus to this design for me as I am particularly drawn to green gemstones. Green sapphires are a brilliant alternative to an emerald as emeralds are a very brittle gemstone which we wouldn't tend to recommend using in a ring such as an engagement ring as you tend to wear them daily and they do not withstand pressure, knocks or scratches as well as diamonds and sapphires, which are the hardest stones. The beautiful deep colour of the sapphire in this CAD ring catches the light wonderfully and the facets of the princess cut work so well in this particular design adding wonderfully to the clean lines of the design.

Another favorite green gemstone of mine is the tourmaline, which can vary in colour from yellowy through to green and plumy pink. Tourmalines are known to be called the rainbow stone due to their amazing scale of colour. A favorite ring of mine is this ready to wear engagement ring in our cambridge collection which holds a stuning deep green 7x5mm oval tourmaline. It looks delicious against the mixture of white and yellow gold and really shows of the beautiful colour of the stone in the reflection of the warm coloured metal.

So, no matter what your favorite colour is, why not look through our galleries at the different designs with coloured stones and see which one catches your eye.
