Palladium, green tourmaline and diamond engagement ring

We recently received some new ready to wear rings in our Cambridge studio including this ring by our resident senior designer Alice Rochester. I wanted to write a blog about this ring because coloured stones have been so popular recently both with our commissions and ready to wear customers. This ring, although easy to wear, is unusual and colourful and therefore a great one to show customers interested in colour and hidden design features.

Palladium and green tourmaline engagement ring

This ring stands out because of the unusual minty green colour of the tourmaline. We see quite a few green tourmalines, as they are a fantastic harder wearing alternative to emeralds. Tourmalines come in all sorts of colours but this particular minty shade is very rare. It is reminiscent of turquoise seas in the Caribbean and would therefore be a perfect ring for a holiday proposal; she can be reminded of sun drenched beaches every time she looks at it on her hand!

We all love this stone because it is so unlike our other ready to wear rings we have. It is a good alternative colour to pink if you are looking for a girly, feminine ring.

This gorgeous stone is set in a chunky all around setting and the four brilliant cut diamonds around the shoulders are invisibly set into the band leaving no corners or claws for anything to snag on and giving the stones the best possible protection. Not only is this ring practical, but is very low key. An extra hidden design feature you only see when looking at the side view of this ring is the fact that the central stone has a clever little groove hidden under it so loads of light can get in under it and fill it with light to show off the colour beautifully. This clever, contemporary setting style is good for another reason too - as it is raised above the 3mm wide band, it will sit comfortably next to an unshaped wedding band. Even though fitted twist designs are very popular, equally a lot of customers are adamant they want an un-fitted wedding band so if they wear it on its own, it looks right rather than part of a set, for example:

This previous ready to wear set look stunning together, but also look complete on their own. Whoever buys this tourmaline and diamond engagement ring could commission a matching wedding band that has stones in the front that line up with the stones in the engagement ring to compliment it in a really pretty way, just like this sapphire and diamond ring.

I'm a big fan of palladium; if you like the cold white colour of platinum, why rhodium plate white gold if you can have palladium for a similar price? It will stay the same colour forever without re-plating unlike rhodium plated white gold. Palladium is such a popular choice for our commission customers and I find myself showing our palladium ready to wear rings all the time to people who come in for some information. The bright white colour of this precious metal is a really lovely contrast to the minty green of the tourmaline and compliments the sparkly white of the four diamonds.
