I don't know about you, but I am very excited about the grey winter mornings of scrapping the car with frozen fingers gradually disappearing into sunnier times! After a much needed week in the sun earlier this month, seeing snowdrops in bloom and bulbs poking through the soil fills me with excitement for the new season! We have several engagement rings which always remind me of this feeling when I put them out each morning, all inspired by an aspect of this exciting time of year.
Firstly, this stunning platinum ring with an unusual trillion cut diamond is inspired by a young plant breaking through the top layer of soil and twisting out into the sun.
The slim band twists up to the all around setting around the edge of the stone for a really elegant look. As an added design feature, there are small overlaid triangles on the setting which remind me of petals uncurling from the bulb of a new plant.
Trillian cut stones make a really interesting choice for a main central stone, but also work really well as side stones in the shoulders as they lead the eye around the ring for a lovely contemporary look. We have used trillian cuts in all sorts of commissions and ready to wear rings inspired by various things including sailing and mountains.
Continuing the flora and fauna theme, here is one of my current favourite rings we have for sale in our Cambridge studio inspired by a rose.
The brilliant cut diamond is in an all around setting which has been shaped to look like four petals around the stone. This setting is in the centre of four more petals which have been shaped into realistic petal forms, making this ring very feminine and subtle in its unusualness! The rose has always been associated with love with its long history of symbolism attributed to it by the ancient Greeks and Romans who identified this flower with their goddess of love (Aphrodite and Venus). And what's more romantic than a surprise bunch of roses! How about hiding this ring in a bunch for an even more romantic surprise?
If coloured stones are more your thing, another spring inspired design is this gorgeous sapphire ring inspired by the petals of a tulip or crocus. There are plenty of these lovely colourful flowers springing up all around us at this time of year, so if your Mrs loves her Spring bulbs, how about giving her this ring unexpectedly while she prunes her garden?
I hope this has inspired you for some romantic Spring proposals! Remember you can come in to either of our studios to have a look and try on our ready to wear designs any time. Alice Rochester, our resident senior designer here in Cambridge is often available for impromptu appointments every Wednesday to Friday if you want to talk over any ideas you have.
