Bespoke Palladium and Tourmaline Engagement Ring

One of the bespoke engagement ring designs that I have worked on recently, and which springs to mind as one that had particular meaningful sentiment in its design, was the one I designed for Andy and his girlfriend Francesca.

The ring was to be a surprise for Francesca, so unbeknown to her Andy had come to us after extensively browsing our website and had selected a number of ring designs that he liked. The common theme in all the designs was a twisting shank/band, but none was quite perfect.

I talked through why Andy had chosen particular images, and the symbolism Andy wanted to incorporate into the ring to make it very personal and unique to them.

Andy's design Brief

Andy wanted to incorporate a pink stone - this was to represent Pink herself, 'Pink being her nickname' and her favourite colour.

The stone chosen was a lovely brilliant cut pink Tourmaline.

Andy felt that the ring should be asymmetrical - 'because she likes to be different'

I accentuated this by creating an open ended twisting shank which allowed the gap to be widened between the shoulders of the shank splaying the ring out at the front so it spreads further up and down the finger rather than in a straight-ish line across the finger, and further more by using different shaped and size stones - round brilliant cut and square princess cut to get an asymmetrical shape.

Andy wanted to create a soft fluid shape - 'because of her curves'

By scrolling the ends of each shoulder in opposite directions, as well as the main twist shape of the shank, we created a very curved fluid shape for the ring.

Another requirement for Andy was the inclusion of a Diamond - 'just because she's special and deserves it'

The end result was this ring.

And I am happy to say Andy presented it in a very romantic way to Pink in Venice, and she said yes!
