The beauty of a sketch

What is lovely about our bespoke engagement rings are that they are all handmade as one off individual pieces here in our Hertfordshire workshop. This is often the quality that most couples are drawn to when going down the bespoke route rather than buying a mass produced ring. To make your commission extra special, the designers can also provide a series of hand drawn sketches either during or after the appointment if appropriate, to clarify ideas and pin down the design.

I think this is not only a beautiful romantic touch providing a lovely record of your bespoke ring but also helps with the realization of the ring. If you have been to any of our open days or have had a look in our portfolios you will see just how exquisite and beautiful the hand drawn sketches are, I am sure you will agree they are mini works of art in their own right!

The art of drawing the idea first has always been prevalent throughout history as a great way to get your ideas down on paper first before going ahead with the making of the finished product. I find it really interesting to see the initial design process watching how an idea can come to life through a preliminary sketch.

Designers' Sketches

This applies across a whole range of art and design disciplines. A good example of this is jumped out at me whilst navigating through the V and A website. Constructivist artist El Lissitzky's abstract, somewhat magical drawings have been realized into the wonderful sculptures seen at the Van Abbe Museum. It is a magical process to see how his near impossible shapes and visionary sketches have been translated into real materials.

El Lissitzky

Often our commission customers will come to the design appointment with brilliant ideas for a bespoke piece of jewellery, that just need tweaking here and there through the design process and preliminary sketches; our goldsmiths can then translate these ideas into real material realizing the project through from inception to completion.

If you'd like to talk through any of your ideas or are interested in incorporating sketches in your commission than please contact us, we are always happy to help.
