Ruby - the birthstone for July

Ruby is the beautiful birthstone for July, and they can be found in a variety of strong vibrant colours. The brightest and most popular colour is a blood-red, but they can be found in orange, purple, violet and pink. They can be mined from all over the world, and one country in particular is Africa, which leads us to this stunning engagement ring that has been recently added to our ready to wear collection. It was designed by Harriet, and it is a 9ct rose gold band with palladium stone settings, holding a 1.04cts Tanzanian ruby, with the side diamonds totalling 0.21cts. The diamonds are recycled and they came from a pair of antique earrings and have been reconditioned and polished to look new!

Our stone supplier is very trustworthy and he himself got this amazing stone from the mines so we can be more confident of the providence of the stone. It is a really striking design and I think the different tones of the ruby and of the metal complement each other really well. Harriet decided to use rose gold as well as palladium for this design. The rose gold is used to pick up the pinky reds within the stone, and the palladium setting separates the colour tones and give the illusion the diamonds are slightly larger in size.

Ruby has excellent hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, making it a perfect stone to use in a ring that can be worn every day. It is the second hardest stone to diamond. This lovely gemstone has often been associated with strength and love enthusiasm, and this stone really does make a wonderful choice for an engagement ring, or for a delicate detail in a wedding or eternity ring, like this beautiful eternity ring that was commissioned for a couple.

We also have a few other ruby engagement rings in our ready to wear collection, and they also really lovely, with a design to suit every style. We now use fairly traded rubies and these are completely untreated. Perhaps you would like to commission your own ruby engagement ring?
