I recently spent a month working in our Halls Green studio so I've had the chance for a good look in the cabinets at the other half our ready to wear collection. I've always been drawn to earthy, muted colours and have really grown fond of green sapphires since working at HK. These examples below are three you can come and see in the Halls Green showroom.
This lovely ring has a stunning princess cut green sapphire as the centre piece of the design, in a modern corner claw setting which allows a lot of light to enter the stone from the sides to show off its stunning colour to the full. Sapphires don’'t sparkle like diamonds do, so it's nice to have the added sparkle in the shoulders of the band. These are grain set into pear shapes which helps to emphasise the organic inspiration of this design in their leaf-like shape. This shoulder detail also draws your eye in towards the centre sapphire and almost tricks your eye, making the 3mm wide band appear slimmer.
The side view of the setting is really pretty, with petal shaped windows that are echoed in the split shoulder detail. This ring is set in my favourite metal, 18ct white gold without rhodium plating so the dark white colour compliments the earthy tone of the sapphire. Gorgeous!
I also really like this design because the colour of the metal and the two stones really conjure up the autumnal feeling this ring is inspired by. It combines two of the favourite stones in one design and they work so beautifully together with their earthy colours. The slim but deep band has a very contemporary feel, swooping around the two stones like a twisted branch. This design illustrates how two colours of stones in one design can work beautifully.
This design has a very classic feel, with the brilliant cut green sapphire raised high above the ring to show it off to the max. The delicate claw setting allows lots of light to enter to the side of the stone, so light can bounce around the facets and highlight the beautiful colour. As with the first ring, this gorgeous stone is set in natural, un-plated 18ct white gold which suits the muted stones of the stone. This dark white metal also frames the crisp white diamonds, so instead of them disappearing into the white metal for an all over sparkly feel, they are framed against the dark white colour. This works particularly well as the tapererd baguette cut diamonds have a stepped facet pattern and are therefore less sparkly than say a brilliant cut for a more low key effect. This cut has an Art Deco feel which adds to the classic design of this ring, however as with all HK rings, although the inspiration is based in the past, the design is brought bang up to date with the contemporary touches, like the 2.4mm wide band and softened flat profile.
