New Amber Designs

Hello All

Amber has been very popular with our customers lately and these three rings in particular have received a lot of interest.

Not wanting to disappoint our customers, we can now welcome two new Amber rings to our current ready to wear collection for your consideration.

As the Sun and Art Deco themes were heavy influences in the three previous ready to wear amber rings above, I have designed a simple engagement ring which takes its influence from the iconic Art Deco Sun ray motif, often seen on stained glass windows, gates and architecture and the like.

Examples of the sun ray motif in use.

Art Deco Inspired

With this as my inspiration, this is the ring design I came up with this 'Art Deco Palladium Amber sunray engagement ring'

Palladium and amber engagement ring

This palladium ring has taken inspiration from the Art Deco sunray motif. The rub over set 6mm round cabochon amber is the sun, with the polished palladium rays emanating out from it in a classic Art Deco step effect, adding detail and depth. It can be worn as a dress ring or a beautiful engagement ring - the flat edge allowing a wedding ring to sit comfortably next to the ring without needing fitting (this ring would look great with a yellow gold flat wedding band). The band measures 2mm wide while the centre of the ring measures 7.5mm wide by the setting.

The second ring new to our ready to wear collection is a classic, timeless also Art Deco inspired design created by Alice Rochester. Alice has kept the design simple with just the added detail of two engraved curved lines on the top of the band which focus the attention to the beautiful Amber at its centre.

White gold and amber engagement ring

This elegant engagement ring holds a 5mm round cabochon cut piece of Amber in a protective all round setting. To compliment the beautiful warm colour of the central focal point this ring has been made in 9ct white gold with no rhodium plating. The 3mm band has a soft d shape profile and has two hand engraved lines either side of the central stone which completes the timeless Art Deco look.

Both rings are very wearable, but greater care should be taken when wearing amber jewellery, due to its softness. Measuring 2.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness this compares to the hardness of your fingernail, so it is important to take the ring off or at least wear gloves before doing anything really hands on, such as gardening, sport, DIY or housework etc.

Amber is not a stone but a resin, made from the fossilized remains of trees. It is actually tree sap, the Monkey Puzzle tree is thought to be the descendent of the type of ancient tree which created Amber.

Monkey Tree

As the sap flowed down the bark of these ancient trees or dropped to the ground, it frequently trapped insects and sometimes small reptiles and plants on its way. You may recall the film Jurassic Park used the idea of extracting DNA from a fossilized insect trapped in Amber to bring dinosaurs back to life.

Amber is said to help the wearer be joyful and happy, and is found washed up on beaches - the main sources are the Baltic regions and the Domincan Republic - so maybe if you are on holiday having a stroll along the beach take a closer look.

Hope you like the two new amber rings!

Bye for now

Antoinette
