If you come to the
Halls Green barn during the week you can see the goldsmiths working at their benches it
can be an eye-opening experience. They use powered drills and a powered polisher, but
everything else really happens by hand on wooden benches the old fashioned way, lit by
flickering gas flames as they warm the gold.
It's an important part of the experience of having a ring made for you by us - we don't
just use cast parts from catalogues and pop in a stone from a pile of stones, but have the
skills to make a ring from scratch and the design flair to make each engagement ring unique
and personal to you
We commissioned a great young photographer called Sophia Schorr-kon to come and document the process of making a ring, so we can show you what happens, even if you can't come and see it in action. She made a really beautiful set of photos, which are as I write being converted to large format displays so you can really see how the handmaking process works in the store. All the new graphics are being printed on FSC certified paper, which was important to us as it really will be a lot of paper by the end of it :)
The Cambridge
store will be closed from this Sunday for a mini-refit, so do come and visit us when we
reopen on Wednesday 26th March and get a flavour of the makers at work in the newly revamped
space.
