Fluorite

Fluorite doesn't receive as much press as its peers, but is, nonetheless, a very interesting and beautiful stone.

Although usually a gorgeous purple which easily rivals the rich colour of amethyst, fluorite is also found in green, yellow, blue, black…the list of colours goes on and on!

Used since the Egyptian times, fluorite has also been used in China for making statues, as a remedy to relieve people from symptoms arising from kidney disease, and in optics. It is now commonly used in jewellery, because it works well both with other stones and on its own. Because of the many different colours of fluorite, a rainbow coloured necklace can be produced with no need to involve other stones. Fluorite has several ‘spiritual’ properties which endear it to people. It is used by healers to help with ulcers and strengthen bones; it is sometimes referred to as the “genius stone”, because it can increase concentration, and can often help when a decision is hard to reach. Fluorite also possesses a property which no other gemstone possesses: under the right conditions, large amounts of fluorine (a very important element used in the chemical industry) can be produced.

On our Purple Label website, there are many beautiful pieces of fluorite jewellery which look nice with casual day clothes as well as smart evening wear, due to the mix of colours and general elegance that the necklaces exude. To see our full range of fluorite jewellery, please click here.
