Peridot always springs to mind at this time of the year as it is traditionally known as the birthstone for the month of August.
The gemstone colour ranges from a yellow green to a dark olive-green, with the most valuable stones a dark olive green.
Peridot has a rich history, and is closely connected with nature, and in fact Early Egyptian priests drank a stimulating beverage called Soma from cups made of Peridot, believing this practice to draw them closer to Isis, the goddess of nature. Interestingly in days gone by, the green crystal was seen to protect against evil and when set in gold, it was seen to prevent against night terrors.
Historically it has been said that the force of nature is alive within a Peridot, making any piece of jewellery containing this gemstone a symbol of vitality. It signifies strength, for the individual and for a relationship, as well as the promise of new growth in years ahead.
We have seen that Peridot is as popular today as it has been in the past and here are some examples of engagement rings and anniversary rings that we have had the opportunity to make here at the Halls Green studio.
