Toys to inspire budding designers - part two!

For a creative child of any age (or even an adult) a really lovely set of pens, pencils or crayons is always a great gift. Somebody bought my son a set of these last year and they are great.

Crayola Twistables

I have asked my son's great aunt to buy him large set of wax crayons for his birthday as Thomas is just rediscovering crayons - they are so great. We have been using them to draw spiders and then putting water-colour paint over the whole page afterwards to great effect. In my opinion, you can't beat Crayola crayons for quality.

For coloured pencils, I have always liked Caron Dache pencils - especially the ones that you can mix with water to create a painted look. My aunt, who is very creative, gave me a set of these when I was about 10 and I still use them now! I noticed this set which looks lovely.

For pens, I always favour a fine line (but this is possibly because the work that I do is so detailed). Isn't this set great - I love the way it rolls out.

Staedtlet Pencils

One of my favourite presents that I have received as an adult is just such a set of pens! This larger set in fact.

I just love them and still secretly arrange them in various orders when nobody is looking. I have also just bought a set for my goddaughter's 12th birthday and I know she will love them. She, like me, is another dyslexic genius! (Well - she is the genius bit even if I am not!)

My son has a set of these which are great - they change colour when you put the 'magic' pen over the top of them. I think these are a really good price for a present for your little one to take to a birthday party too. He also has a set of crayola pens which he was given when he was about 2 which were a wonderful present because they water based and wash out which is important at this age!

Magic Coloured Pens

Another great present for somebody who might make a mess, but wants to have a go, is this. There are a huge range of these aqua products from Tomy - they are completely brilliant and Thomas has been using his since he was about 2 and still uses it now at nearly 5.

Drawing Mat

Another good non-messy creative toy is this one. My son has something similar and my daughter who is 1 is already enjoying it - especially using the 'stampers'.

Scribbler

Gosh I could go on and on. I may do a another part to this blog soon! I hope that you enjoy inspiring your little designers with some of these ideas. Let me know if you find any other wonderful creatively inspiring toys!

See you soon,

Harriet
