A beautiful kite shaped diamond

I have just bought a stunning diamond pendant at auction as I plan to use the beautiful certificated G VVS2 diamond as a 'recycled' diamond. It is a kite shape (well a modified shield shape officially) and weighs 1.02cts (that is BIG!).

Kite shaped diamond 1.02cts

I just love this cut - it is low key and doesn’t sparkle as much as something like a brilliant cut so it works really well for people who like more simple designs or like the Art Deco engagement ring style.

It is currently in this pendant which is, in my opinion, a really bad use for this stone as it is underplays this beautiful stone. It will be much better in a beautiful and elegant ring.

Being a recycled diamond will mean that the price will be a bargain for whoever buys it and ethically I am very keen on recycled diamonds which are already out of the ground and are kind of pre-loved but ready for more and for a new lease of life. And as a diamond is billions of years old anyway - what do a few years of previous ownership matter? Having said that I never buy engagement rings to recycle diamonds from as sometimes people can be superstitious in case they may have been a symbol of an unhappy relationship.

I really want to design a ring for our ready to wear collection with this stunning kite shaped stone – something really simple and elegant - but I'm going to hold off for a while in case any of our customers would like to buy it for a bespoke piece instead as it really is such a stunner and so unusual. But get in touch quickly if you are interested!

Here are a few other rings we have recently designed and made with stones in similar unusual kite shaped cuts

Harriet Kelsall becomes a Freeman of the Goldsmiths' Company

We are very proud to announce that Harriet has been invited to become a Freeman of the Company of Goldsmiths and a Freeman of the City of London.

The Goldsmiths' Company is one of the Twelve Great Livery Companies of the City of London originating from the trade guilds of the Middle Ages and is an institution that is more than 700 years old. Nowadays the company promotes excellence in design and craftsmanship and has the responsibility of hallmarking all precious metal jewellery made in the UK.

The Freedom ceremony took place earlier this week at Goldsmiths' Hall in the City of London. Below are a few photos of the event. Apparently Harriet now has the right to drive sheep over London Bridge which I don't think she has any plans to do at least in the short term!

Valentine's at Harriet Kelsall

A beautiful piece of jewellery makes a wonderful St. Valentine's gift and; if you really want to go a step further why not go for a heart shaped stone as a wonderful centre piece for a spectacular ring.

Sapphire heart shaped Engagement ring

This stunning previous unique commission of a 9ct white gold sapphire engagement ring uses a heart shaped 0.31ct mid blue sapphire as the focal point. The 3mm width band tapers around the sapphire and holds three graduating brilliant cut diamonds in an invisible setting. The gentle curve profile tapering shoulder comes to a brilliant diamond which is set in an all around setting and a polished finish. Of course this is an example of what we have completed for previous customer's, your own ideas are yet to be incorporated into a commission, hopefully I have given some 'food for thought' and inspiration to the romantic spirit in you to create your very own bespoke ring. Whatever you are doing have an enjoyable St. Valentine's day.

Valentine's Day

It's that time of year again! Valentine's Day is just round the corner and we have some amazing pieces to choose from in our ready to wear Purple Label range. Take a look through our 'Valentines Collection' and you will see a fantastic range of jewellery from contemporary Swarovski crystal earring s to classic heart pendants. This year, my favourite has to be the 9ct yellow gold diamond English Rose pendant

ENGLISH ROSE PENDANT

The rose has an invisibly set H SI diamond in the centre. With the delicate 16 inch 9ct yellow gold oval linked chain this beautiful pendant sits perfectly at the bottom of a 55mm drop. I think this pendant would be a wonderful gift for a very special person!
