C.A.D. ready to wear engagement ring now in the Cambridge studio

I thought I would use this opportunity to talk about one of the new ready to wear engagement rings we have just got in our Cambridge studio. This beautiful classic design really does have a modern twist, the setting was constructed by using Computer Aided Design, which means it has been made far more intricate and detailed than could be achieved by hand. This is one of a few rings designed by Rebecca where she has used C.A.D. After being constructed the setting was then finished by hand before being joined to the hand-forged twisting band.

Platinum and sapphire engagement ring

The twist shaped band has a very organic and flowing feel about it, the way it gradually tapers towards the central stones and then gently curves and wraps around it creating very soft and fluid lines, which gives this ring a very feminine appearance. Twist styled bands are a favourite here and are always very popular with our customers; I think this is likely to be because the shape adapts itself easily to modern and classic designs. The steely white colour of the platinum in this ring works beautifully with the cool blue tones of the central sapphire.

The blue sapphire is brilliant cut and measures 6.1mm, 0.93ct, and has the most wonderful sparkle. The way in which the six claws sit around the sapphire really draws your eye towards the centre of facetted pattern. The height and six claws of the setting coupled with the brilliant cut sapphire gives this ring a classic feel. This is then accentuated by the three graduating brilliant cut diamonds that have been pave set into the shoulder, which also adds an extra bit of sparkle.

For those who want a coloured gemstone in their engagement ring but are looking for something that is still quite traditional I think this is the perfect example. To me this ring really sums up the idea of being "classic with a modern twist", combining traditional and modern making techniques and also incorporating classic and modern design features.
