MIZPAH

I have just sold one of our special sterling silver rings with the biblical word 'Mizpah' engraved onto it, to one of our delightful customers. As I began to explain the meaning behind this unusual word, I suddenly thought to myself, well, I know it is seen as good luck, but where did this Mizpah word originate from? So here for all of you who would like to know a bit more about the meaning behind the word, read on...

The word mizpah goes back thousands of years when the first record of the word appears in the Bible in the book of Genesis Chapter 31.

MIZPAH - The Lord watch between me and thee when we are absent from each other.

Mizpah rings have been given as symbols of protection and togetherness for many years. The word itself means 'watchtower' in Hebrew and this traditiion was particually popular in English Victorian jewellery.
