Hello there!
I just quickly wanted to let you know that I have just made a very exciting discovery; the Natural History Museum is opening a new permanent gallery called "The Vault".
The Vault gallery space aims to tell the stories behind some of the most rare, most valuable (and most sparkly) gem stones, crystals and metals around.
To make room for this impressive exhibition the old Meteorites display has been removed, which involved relocating the huge 3.5 tonne meteorite.
But the Vault will be more than impressive with collections of incredibly rare stones, like a 1,700-carat topaz found in the 19th Century, an incredibly rare orange "padparadscha" sapphire discovered in Sri Lanka. It also features an extraordinary pink "morganite" beryl from Madagascar, which I cannot wait to see as we have worked with pink morganite in our own ready to wear collections (which are both on my engagement ring list).
But, I believe, the most impressive feature in The Vault will be the Aurora collection of natural coloured diamonds. I don't mean just a few coloured diamonds, but 296 coloured diamonds ranging from emerald green to blood red. (Keep a look out for red diamonds coming soon to our RTW engagement rings – have a look at Harriet's blog for more details). The Aurora Collection has 267.45 carats of exceptionally rare stones, from the 12 colour varieties.
But not only does this Aurora collection include all the coloured diamonds that you could ever dream of, but it highlights a property of clear and coloured diamonds that many people are unaware of; glowing diamonds. When these diamonds are exposed to ultra violet light they glow or even change colour. This is a spectacular one that I will have to see.
And luckily there isn't long to wait. The Vault opens November 28th and is free of charge!! This is a permanent exhibition so there is plenty of time to see this amazing display of gems.
Hope that you are as excited as I am.
Take Care!
