Like many of our customers, Bob had been planning his proposal for a while. When we e-mailed him to let him know that Linzi's engagement ring was finished, he told me about his plans for making a new presentation box for the ring out of walnut shells. He wrote:
'No offense to your good selves at HK, I'm sure it will come in a lovely box, but I've got a couple of walnut shells from Christmas, which I managed to open nicely and I'm planning on turning one of those into a nice presentation box - hinge the two halves together, fill one with foam covered in black velvet, maybe paint something nice on the inside of the other half, that sort of thing...'
Needless to say, the product designer in me was more than a little intrigued and I asked if he would send us a few photos after the event. I thought I should share them with you as I'm so impressed with the care and attention that has been put into it. He said of the project:
'It was an interesting experiment to get hinges that small to work, but a few hours with some glue and a Dremmel saw them sitting perfectly. I just couldn't get over how tiny they were. Still, the magnets holding the shell closed were even smaller (but surprisingly powerful...). The hinges are from www.phoenixmodeldevelopments.com and you can get the magnets from a number of people on eBay. That's the easy part.'
'You may be pleased to hear that it (the engagement ring) is perfect - the size and shape of the stones, the palladium - right down to the hidden ruby - all exactly perfect. I even got the size right.'
Hurrah! Everyone here is very impressed.
