Style

Rebecca Howarth's work is influenced by organic forms and nature in general. This takes the character of flowing lines, natural shapes and vibrant colours. She shares in the company's belief that practical, wearable designs are best and enjoys creating bespoke pieces that are individually designed to suit each of her increasing list of delighted commission customers.

Career

Rebecca was born locally in Hitchin and showed an early talent for art and all things creative. She went on to gain a merit for the Art and Design Foundation Diploma at the University of Hertfordshire and then on to Sheffield Hallam University to study a BA (Hons) Degree in Metalwork and Jewellery. This course included many practical aspects of jewellery making which has proved invaluable to Rebecca and she combined that with technical and live drawing classes.

In October 2002 Rebecca was awarded first prize in the prestigious Sheffield Hallam University Mace Competition - a competition to design and assist in making the New Sheffield Hallam University Mace. The competition was not only a practical commission but involved the co-ordination between the University PR department, the makers and the event staff. This lead to Rebecca becoming very involved in the organisation of other Degree show exhibitions and in promoting craft exhibitions in general.

In November 2002 she entered the 'Made in Sheffield' Award to design and make the annual trophy for an outstanding business in Sheffield and was awarded second place and March 2004 saw Rebecca being given a 'silver' award in the Goldsmith's Craft and Design Council Award 2004 (4b Silversmiths Senior) for her Mace.

Rebecca as exhibited her work at the 'New Designers 2004' exhibition at The Business Design Centre in Islington, at 'Strike' BA and MA exhibition of Contemporary Metalwork and Jewellery at the Persistence Works Gallery, Yorkshire Art Space, at The Goldsmiths' Hall Exhibition of Craft and Design Council Awards in London and at 'Fabricate 2003' in Sheffield.
