A summary of the commission process
Design appointment
Your bespoke engagement ring begins with a design consultation. This can be face to face in Hertfordshire or Cambridge or over the phone. During the consultation the designer will discuss what you're looking for, your style, what clothes you wear, what colours you prefer. To Harriet and her team, design is all about understanding what is special and individual to you and your design appointment is their chance to discover the perfect design for you.
If you have found engagement ring pictures in our galleries that you love then bring them along to your appointment. You may also have browsed our engagement ring knowledge section and have ideas as to your ring's style, metal or stone - bring these thoughts along too and we can use our experience to help you make the right choice.
If you are unsure about your design, don't worry your designer can talk through ideas and come up with suggestions during your appointment and if you are commissioning a surprise engagement ring then bring along some pictures of your partner wearing what suits her best.
If appropriate your designer may do a series of hand drawn sketches either during or after the appointment to clarify ideas and pin down the design. At the end of this stage you and your designer will have arrived at a unique design that is exactly what you want and within your budget.
Choosing your design
During your appointment your designer will help you choose your engagement ring's style. This may involve thinking about the engagement ring's shape, whether it will be more traditional or contemporary or perhaps based on a specific design period. You will also discuss the various stone setting options and if your beloved reminds you of the moon and you want to honour that, we can do that too!

Choosing your precious metal
The three precious metal choices are silver, various colours of gold or platinum - each has its own characteristics, beauty and of course price. Your designer will discuss the options, together with possible finishes and engraving choices.

Choosing your gemstone
Getting us to source your gems is the best way to ensure you end up with the most beautiful gemstone for the best possible price. We don't hold a large stock that we are trying to sell, instead we source from a network of dealers across the world both big and small, selling to you at the same price as loose stone dealers would do. The advantage is that our expertise comes free.

Handmaking
When we have found the design you are completely happy with, and you are ready to go ahead, we ask for a 50 percent non-refundable deposit up front to buy the metal and stones with and our master craftsmen will hand make your ring as agreed to the highest standards. Your designer keeps an eye on the whole process, and works with the maker to make sure that as the ring goes through the various stages, it still conforms to the precise design you decided on. This process takes around 6 weeks and the remaining balance is payable upon collection.
Setting only service
If you have already bought your stone, we are very happy to set it for you. We are a design-led company so we believe we will offer you a far better setting service than elsewhere.
Redesigning your existing ring
If you have inherited an engagement ring or are interested in having your existing ring redesigned, we are very happy to do this. We can reset the stones into a new design and even re-use the metal if it is of sentimental value.
