Are you a design graduation interested in a career in jewellery design?

We are always interested in hearing from anyone with a design degree interested in working towards becoming a designer here at Harriet Kelsall Jewellery Design.

Junior entry positions are very varied and designed to give people a broad understanding of all aspects of bespoke jewellery design before progressing through a junior designer position and ultimately a designer position in our exciting and vibrant company.

The work will include some or all of the following:

  • A period of time working in our busy shop in the historic city centre of Cambridge
  • Some time spent assisting our project manager who is always juggling 200 or so jewellery commissions and their progress through the workshop
  • A period of time answering email enquiries generated through our website under the supervision of the sales manager.
  • Generally assisting in the office and the design department.

Assistants who show aptitude and commitment will progress to full design assistants working exclusively with the designers on bespoke jewellery projects - meeting customers and getting fully emersed in the exciting day to day life of our busy design department.

The right people will be passionate about jewellery, creative, practical, a three-dimensional thinker and good at working in a team environment. A confident communicator, and they will also be conscientious, well presented and hard-working.

The full-time hours are 5 days per week and applicants must expect to work Saturdays.

Fulltime Junior Goldsmith/Diamond Mounter

We are looking for somebody who is passionate about making handmade jewellery to work in our Halls Green Workshop. You will be a forward thinking craftsman who can offer a high level of commitment. You should be friendly, organised, energetic and of course fit in with the team well and be able to mix comfortably with customers. You will be somebody with a mature attitude who can work independently to a good standard and to specific deadlines. The successful candidate will be reliable and conscientious as well as honest and trustworthy.

We are looking for somebody with two to three years of experience, able to work in precious metal to good standards and with skills in polishing and some repair work. You should be looking to grow and improve on these skills. We expect an exceptionally high quality of workmanship and any prospective candidates should be striving to achieve this in their work.

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • The making of high quality, handmade Jewellery, working in silver, gold, palladium and platinum.
  • Managing work flow to tightly set deadlines
  • Some repair and resize work.
  • Some inhouse polishing work.
  • Liasing with and advising Jewellery Designers and Jewellery Advisors
  • Working from design sketches.
  • Talking to members of the public
  • Any other duties as they arise.

This is a fulltime position, Monday to Friday from 9.45am to 6pm and will be based in the workshop in our Halls Green, Hertfordshire studio.

Salary is dependent on experience and will be discussed if invited to interview.
