Learn about Shapes

Probably the first things to consider when thinking about a bespoke engagement ring is what the shape of the design should be. Here are are few starting points to consider:

If you are in the fortunate position of buying an engagement ring, perhaps the first step you should take in thinking about your design is to consider the style of the ring. We generally find the best way to do this is to consider a couple of important things to start with - namely:

  • Should the ring have some element of symmetry to its design or should it be asymmetrical. Remember that a symmetrical engagement ring doesn't just have to be one that has a mirror image of itself, but could have rotational symmetry instead.
  • Should the ring be a delicate design or something more dramatic or perhaps more chunky.

Symmetrical verses asymmetrical is something that we often find at Harriet Kelsall Jewellery Design is fixed in our customer's minds right from the start of the process. An asymmetrical design is often more of a statement piece whereas a symmetrical design can be a little more conventional. Our twist style of engagement rings are very popular, these often exhibit rotational symmetry which can be choice to consider.

Its probably true also that our customers tend to know if they fit into either the 'delicate' or 'dramatic' camps. This is probably because its about making a choice that reflects one's personality or physical features and we tend to know where we stand in those areas.

If you aren't sure about which way to go, don't worry your designer can help you with these choices during your design consultation.
