Some romantic proposal ideas
When it comes to proposing, it has to be said that the more romantic the better! Of course there are no hard and fast rules and the element of surprise is not essential but it can be a great way to start your engagement.
Even if you are thinking of commissioning an engagement ring and want to involve your fiancee in the design, there are ways of retaining the element of surprise:
- Our commission in a box is a lovely thing to propose with. Book the design appointment in advance and this pack contains information about your appointment, your designer and our goldsmiths, all beautifully presented
- Make a weekend of it! Why not book a surprise appointment in either our Hertfordshire studio in the beautiful rolling countryside or in our Cambridge shop right in the heart of that historic city and make a weekend of it. We can recommend romantic places to stay and eat locally and we be sure to give you that extra special welcome when you arrive for your appointment
- Why not propose with sketches of your commissioned engagement ring design? We can take the commission process up to the sketch stage and give you a selection of ideas, beautifully hand-drawn for you and your fiancee to choose from as one of the first things you do as a newly engaged couple
- A popular option is to propose with a loose gemstone or diamond. We can source you a wonderful stone from our network of international gemstone and diamond dealers, then you and your fiancee can come back and design the engagement ring together. This way she gets the sparkly surprise but you can be sure the commissioned design is exactly what she wants. Find out more about our diamond and gemstone expertise.
- Of course you can do the traditional thing and propose with a ready to wear engagement ring from our collection. If its not perfect you can always return it and then commission a ring to the same value or simply get a full refund (conditions apply)
Do contact us if you would like to talk through any of the above ideas or even if you have your own proposal idea that we can help with.
Over the years our customers have told us some wonderful proposal stories, a few of which we can share with you here.
Toby commissioned this beautiful engagement ring from us then baked it into a cake for his fiancee to find!
"The chef at the restaurant cunningly baked the ring (in its box) within a fake dessert; basically a shallow pie dish with a puff pastry lid which was brought to the table on my cue after the main course as a complimentary dessert for the lady only. The rest you can probably imagine (apart from Just's shell-shock which is only starting to subside today."
A trail of pink petals led up to this engagement ring! A lovely surprise as pink was her favourite colour and included in the engagement ring design.
Richard planned to propose on Ayres Rock so he commissioned an engagement ring from us whos design echoed the red landscape that is so characteristic of that part of Australia. Rose gold was combined with a stunning ruby and much to her surprise, Richard popped the question on the summit whilst on holiday!
Of course there are many more lovely stories such as the kite surfer who tied the ring to his kite, or the customer who filled a room with helium balloons with the ring in one of them, or the Ceylon sapphire ring hidden in a huge box of other gifts for her to open one by one.
I suppose this shows that anything goes, so long as its perfect for you and your fiancee!
