Begin by meeting one of our
talented designers.
This can either be face to face in our Hertfordshire studio, our Cambridge shop, or on the phone if you live too far away. The design appointment is your chance to make a design that is personal to you.
Why not make a weekend of it and enjoy the Hertfordshire countryside.
If you have any questions or would like to arrange a design consultation,
please contact us.
The structure of the appointment depends on how you would like to work. Some people come having identified engagement rings they like from our website or elsewhere or specific stones they would like, some just have a romantic feeling of wanting to be reminded of their favourite beach. We'd never just copy another designer's work or a previous commission, but talking about why you like particular pieces helps your designer understand your taste.
Inspiration can come from a place that is important to you as a couple, colours you like to wear, the kind of design you like in your home, family heirlooms - anything. Designing a bespoke ring is all about you.
We love to hear the stories behind your inspiration, and have made a moonstone ring for an astronomer, a ring inspired by the Chrysler building for a couple who fell in love in New York, an aquamarine ring set in stylised waves for a woman who loves to be around water...
Whatever you come to us with, we'll work with you to turn your ideas into an engagement ring that comes within your budget. Sometimes that will mean tweaking the initial idea or reworking it into something similar, but we'll always keep the initial concept in the forefront.
Part of being a good designer is getting to the essence of what you want and being able to translate your wishes into a design that can be made for the right price. What we don't do is push our style onto you, or offer you existing designs we've already made for lots of other people. The appointment is free and you're not under any obligation to go ahead with a commission unless you decide that you have a design that is right for you.
Surprising your partner
If you are surprising your partner with a bespoke ring then your designer will discuss their style, likes and dislikes, what colours they like - photographs of them can be useful so we can see their look and what they like to wear. If you're worried about having a ring made and then your partner not liking it, there are various options for a wonderful proposal that don't involve having a finished ring. For example if you come in for an appointment before proposing, we can provide you with a box of sketches to propose with, or perhaps you can choose a stone and then design a ring around it together. If you want to do the process together from the beginning, we can put together a commission in a box, which shows you've put thought into your engagement ring without havng made all the decisions without your partner.
Coming to our Hertfordshire studio
Set in rural Hertfordshire on a working farm, our converted tudor barn studio makes a great setting to design your engagement ring. You can see the goldsmiths at work as well as browse our ready to wear collections and all just 40 minutes from London.
Make a Weekend of it
Why not make a weekend of it? We have a list of recommended hotels, pubs and restaurants all set in the wonderful Hertfordshire countryside to make your trip to see us even more special.
Coming to our Cambridge shop
We run appointments in our central Cambridge shop which is set in the ancient streets of the historic city centre. Tucked away down a cobbled street but right in the middle of the hussle and bustle, why not do some sightseeing while you are there or perhaps a spot of punting!
Phone appointments
If you live too far away, don't worry, we find that phone appointments work very well too. Take as long as you like chatting with a designer in front of our website and together you'll arrive at your perfect design. A large percentage of our customers are based oversees (especially in the US) and a phone appointment works just fine.
