Learn about Engraving

Why not engrave a personal message on the inside or outside of your engagement ring, or engraved lines or Celtic and Knot Work patterns can be used to enhance the design of your engagement ring:

An engraved engagement ring

Engraving is a great addition to your engagement ring. This can take the form of two basic types:

  • Lettering, either inside or outside the shank
  • Decoration on the outside of the shank.

Lettering on the inside of the shank is the most common form of engraving when it comes to engagement rings. A personal message can be written - a special message, or a memorable date perhaps. Either way only you and your fiancee (and us!!) will know its there.

Lettering on the outside of the shank is a bolder choice and must be considered as part of the engagement ring design. We can copy a font or even your handwriting.

Patterned and lined engraving is a decorative feature that can really add a new dimension to the unique design of your engagement ring. Patterns and shapes can add subtle detail to an otherwise straightforward design and be used to emphasise particular parts of the design or the stone. Lines are frequently used to separate contrasting metals or textures on the surface or could be used to draw the eye towards the central stone perhaps. Occasionally engraved lines form the basis of the whole design as in the example shown above and can be used to create a Celtic knotwork effect.

All of these choices can be discussed during your engagement ring design appointment. Please contact us if you would like to arrange a consultation or have any other questions.
