Take time out to enjoy the countryside

If you are considering commissioning an eternity ring, why not make a weekend of it?

We have put together a list of local restaurants and hotels to make your visit really special.

Enjoy the area

Getting out of the city for a weekend can be a wonderful change of pace. Our tudor barn is surrounded by fields and attractive villages that can be the focal point of a relaxed couple of days. We've enjoyed putting together a guide to where to eat and stay in the area. Maybe we're biased, but we do think it's worth spending a little time here rather than just dashing in and out for an appointment.

If you like pub lunches and traditional B&Bs

  • The Moon and Stars in Rushden is a traditional old fashioned pub with gastro leanings. Our designer Alice particularly recommends the dessert platter if you are an aficionado.
Mill End, Rushden, Buntingford, Hertfordshire, SG9 0TA, Tel: 01763 288330
  • The Fox in Willian has just been refurbished and is light and airy, with lovely food.
    The Fox, Willian, Hertfordshire, SG6 2AE, 01462 480233
  • The Bull in Cottered. We've had some of our Christmas lunches at the Bull. It's only 4 miles away, is really friendly and has delicious food.
    The Bull, Cottered, Buntingford, Hertfordshire, SG9 9QP, 01763 281243
  • Stay at Chipping Hall B&B. Recommended by the landlord of the Bull, this B&B is in a Georgian farmhouse a few miles away. It has lovely-looking rooms and all mod cons down to a heated swimming pool.
    Chipping Hall, Chipping, Buntingford, Hertfordshire, SG9 0PH, 01763 271514

If you like traditional with a contemporary twist

  • Sheene Mill Hotel and Restaurant. This is a well established local landmark, and has been the nearest we get to a celebrity restaurant. It's interestingly designed and the food is generally excellent.
Sheene Mill Hotel and Restaurant, Melbourn, Cambridgeshire, SG8 6DX, 01763 261393

If you like golfing, spas and lashings of old-fashioned luxury

  • Hanbury Manor is a bit further south than us, towards London, but it is unashamedly luxurious and ready to pamper you at an extremely high level
Hanbury Manor Hotel and Country Club, Ware, Hertfordshire, SG12 0SD, 01920 487722

If you're bringing kids who need something fun to look forward to

  • Imperial War Museum, Duxford. Home of planes, this place makes small boys very happy (not to mention bigger boys and architecture fans). It's just by the junction to the M11. It offers free entry to under 15s.
    Imperial War Museum, Duxford, Cambridgeshire CB22 4QR 01223 835000
  • Combine Duxford with lunch at the Plough in nearby Great Chesterford, which has good home-cooked food and welcomes families. Sophie who works for us nearly bought a house in the village just because their game pie is so good.
The Plough, High Street, Great Chesterford, Saffron Walden, CB10 1PL, 01799 530283
  • Standalone Farm. This is also great for children. It's a show farm on the outskirts of Letchworth where kids can meet the animals, open from March to the end of September.
Standalone Farm, Wilbury Road, Letchworth Garden City, SG6 4JN, 01462 686775
