What is Dirty Gold?

Industrial scale gold mining has the potential to be very destructive. A lot of rock is moved to find small amounts of gold, and some methods of extracting it involve flooding the metal with cyanide to leach out the gold. You can imagine the headaches with containment and disposal that can cause.

Mining is never a pretty process, but it can be done responsibly, avoiding cyanide, being active in making sure its workers are safe and healthy, looking after the environment around the mine and having clean up processes in place once the gold has been exhausted.

We have added our voice to the No Dirty Gold campaign, and together with the concerned part of the jewellery industry we're putting pressure on our suppliers to clean up their act.
