The team is headed by Harriet Kelsall who has a first class design degree with the highest marks her University had ever awarded. Our view is that a proper education and qualification in design is crucial for a designer to draw on during the creative process. Other companies claim to offer a "design" service but this is rarely up to the standard that we offer. No matter how well an item of jewellery is designed, it is nothing without the skilled craftsman to handmake it. Richard, our chief goldsmith, has over 30 years experience working around the Hatton Garden area of London and he is very very particular as to who is employed to join his team of the best of craftsmen working in the UK today. There are a lot of mediocre makers around and you can be assured that we will only ever use the very best. Using our network of international stone dealers we will always be able to supply stones at the best possible price. Other jewellery websites claim to offer savings on high street prices but as we design and handmake all our own work we will always offer the best possible value for money for the quality of stones that we offer. Its worth mentioning that websites selling loose diamonds at "discount" prices are unlikely to be able to offer like for like savings on the same quality of stones that we use. We have always prefered to handmade individual pieces rather than cast our designs reproducing them 1000s of times. Our commissioned pieces and much of our ready to wear work are unique designs, this means that we will only ever make one example of each of our unique designs. Since our founding in 1998 we have been awarded the North Hertfordshire New Business Enterprise Award, the North Hertfordshire New Business of the Year Award, the North Hertfordshire Best Website Award and North Hertfordshire's Most Successful Business Award. We have also twice been finalists in the UK Jewellery Award, one year recieving a special commendation from the judges. Our designers also have many individual awards to their names - see the "about us" section of the website. The British Jewellers' Association is the UK's national trade association for our industry and we have full membership with this body abiding by its code of practice. Our website has also been recognised by the Department of Trade and Industry It is a legal requirement in the UK that all silver, gold and platinum jewellery is officially assayed. This means that it is checked for metal purity and stamped with a a hallmark to prove it. We have our own stamp lodged with the London Assay Office which means the purity of metal is guaranteed Harriet Kelsall Jewellery Design, together with the British Jewellers' Association and our diamond suppliers put a lot of effort into ensuring that the diamonds that we use are not sourced from areas of Africa controlled by forces rebelling against the legitimate and internationally recognised government of the relevant country. We are also very keen to ensure that the gemstones that we use come from ethical sources.
