The trilogy ring is a classic design and is said to be a way of declaring your love to a person “you are my past, my present and my future.” The design is now chosen for many occasions, either as an engagement ring, or perhaps a 10 year anniversary or after the birth of a third child.
The classic trilogy uses three round brilliant cut diamonds with the central diamond flanked by two slightly smaller diamonds.
However, we now see many other diamond cuts used in a trilogy ring, like princess cut diamonds.
Combing different coloured stones in a trilogy is a popular choice and using the birthstones of family members within the trio of stones creates a unique and effective design.
Combining different gemstone cuts can completely transform the appearance of a classic trilogy. For instance the tapered baguette cut spinels in this design (below, left) creates a beautiful Art Deco style.
Most trilogy rings comprise three stones in a plain band. However, the stones can be set in a variety of ways. This design (left, central) features a paisley shaped palladium overlay which holds the grain set diamonds either side of the central stone.
This additional detailing changes the entire look of the ring while maintaining the trilogy.
There’s so much scope for creativity when it comes to trilogy rings and you can change the plain band into something spectacular by adding engraving or a opting for a more intricate vine band like the one above.
