In varying lights alexandrite takes on chameleon like capabilities and is often described as 'emerald by day, ruby by night’. It is a variety of the mineral chrysoberyl and due to its rarity is a very valuable stone. It is a beautiful alternative to pearl for a June birthstone and is reputed to stimulate the imagination.
