Ruby measures 9 on the Mohs scale, which is just one below diamond, making it an ideal choice for an engagement ring or a piece of jewellery that will be worn everyday. In its purest form the mineral of ruby is colourless but chromium causes ruby’s red, which ranges from an orangey red to a purplish red.
