What is a Statement Engagement Ring Part Three

We’ve explored gemstones and themes as ways to create a statement engagement ring, this final part will uncover the possibilities that metal choice and engravings offer, to make an impact.
When it comes to engagement rings, mixing metals isn’t always an instinctual decision- maybe you didn’t even know it was an option. But…it can really add to your unique, show stopping design. You could opt for something delicate, and have the setting around your gemstone as a contrast to the rest of the ring- for example a platinum claw set teal sapphire, with a yellow gold band. Something more striking could be achieved with twists, where each strand is a different colour, for example white gold and rose gold weaving together or a buttery 9ct yellow gold curl across a platinum band. A more subtle option could be including smaller detailing that will still stand out, such as petals and leaves or beading, which can then be gemstone set or engraved. This look lends itself well when you have a theme that the contrast can emphasise different elements.
Another fabulous option with mixing metal is the opportunity to repurpose heirloom jewellery in one piece- for example Nanna’s white gold engagement ring with Grandad’s yellow gold wedding ring.
Engraving has every possibility of making a statement. Whilst people often include sentimental engravings hidden on the inner side of the band, it could in fact form the biggest inspiration and thus design. Having a band entirely engraved with something you love can be delicate but eye-catching. Perhaps it will be linked to your heritage, a selection of sentimental flowers, the constellation from the night you met, DNA and genetics inspired to represent you both joining as one or are simply an extra touch to your chosen theme…the potential is endless.
Opening your mind to an alternative view to traditional expectations is the best way to let your own self shine through, which a creative designer will help with . So really, what it now comes down to is…What does ‘statement’ look like to you?
