What Choosing Fairtrade Gold For Your Ring Means
Ethics ambassador and designer Alice talks about and showcases Fairtrade certified gold rings that make an ethical difference .
Would you believe, the difference between choosing Fairtrade Gold in your ring can be the equivalent you’d spend on a meal out.
To put that into perspective, the cost of one meal out could support a community to get electricity, running water or access to an education. This is because of the Fairtrade Premium. As we are Fairtrade certified, we offer you the assurance that the gold in your ring is mined in safer conditions and that the miner and their community are paid fairly. The Premium is a percentage that then goes directly to them, where they decide how it is best put to use. This means, every time you look at your ring or someone asks about it, you have the guarantee that because of your decision, some of that cost went to a family and made a difference to their life.
You may be on the fence deciding about a ring made in Fairtrade gold, so it’s worth knowing that your design ideas are not limited. In fact, your choices can be just as extensive.
The thing we love about Fairtrade gold, is not just the ethical background but also how it offers the same possibilities in colours: yellow, white and rose.
As with most things, there are always going to be fashion trend influences. Currently, Fairtrade white gold seems to be a firm favourite, taking a lead in our engagement rings. But, be it a Fairtrade white gold engagement ring or a simple Fairtrade yellow gold band, personalised with engravings and hand carved detailing, we love each design and representing your story all the same. Our designers and goldsmiths can work with the smallest inspiration and make it something personal and special.
To understand what some trending styles look like, here are some of our most-clicked Fairtrade gold rings:
A beautiful Rococo art style solitaire, in Fairtrade 9ct white gold.
An Art Deco, emerald cut diamond in Fairtrade 9ct white gold.
A stunning pale blue sapphire with a touch of medieval aesthetic, set in Fairtrade 9ct yellow gold.
A Fairtrade rose gold eternity ring with hand-carved, intricate details inspired by architecture.
These are just a few that are testament to the many ways Fairtrade gold rings can be designed.
We want to make Fairtrade gold a realistic option for your ring. So if you are wondering how it will reflect in your budget, the only cost difference arises as a result of the all-important Fairtrade premium, which is as it is (never marked up by us) and then the alternative construction methods. The construction process does not always have to alter though, for example Fairtrade yellow gold is more readily available compared to Fairtrade rose gold. This means a ring made in Fairtrade rose gold would be cast rather than handmade, which is where you will see a further rise in price.
Luckily we have experienced designers, goldsmiths and Computer Aided Design specialists who can work with you to create the perfect piece no matter which Fairtrade gold colour you choose.
